What We Think

Condition: Used, Very Good

SP Luthier Notes: A crack present on the side of the guitar was repaired. A neck reset was performed.

The Martin Modern Deluxe D-18 is a refined take on a classic mahogany dreadnought, blending vintage tone with modern upgrades. Its VTS-treated spruce top and Adirondack bracing deliver strong headroom, clarity, and a quick, responsive feel, while the mahogany body adds warmth and a focused, woody character. The tone is balanced and articulate with plenty of projection, making it well-suited for both strumming and picking. The neck feels smooth and comfortable, and the overall build has a polished, high-end feel. Clear, dynamic, and versatile, this D-18 offers a modern take on a timeless sound.

Manufacturer's Description from Martin

The D-18 Modern Deluxe reimagines a Martin icon with cutting-edge craftsmanship. A spruce VINTAGE TONE SYSTEM® (VTS) top and Golden Era–style Adirondack spruce X-bracing recreate the power and balance of a nearly century-old Martin. Natural protein glue and a lightweight carbon-fiber bridge plate add resonance and sustain, while exclusive Liquidmetal® bridge pins enhance projection by up to 3 decibels. EVO gold frets and a slightly asymmetrical neck ensure smooth, precise play, and East Indian rosewood binding around the body, Waverly gold open-gear tuners, and a 1933-style pearl logo lend understated elegance. The iconic Dreadnought body shape offers bold lows, articulate highs, and exceptional headroom—a faithful tribute to the past with a distinctly modern edge and refined sonic authority.

About Manufacturer

For well over a century and a half, The Martin Guitar Company has been continuously producing acoustic instruments that are acknowledged to be the finest in the world. The Martin Guitar Company has, through the years, managed to survive with each succeeding generation from C. F. Martin, Sr.?s Stauffer influenced creations of the 1830s to recent developments introduced by C. F. Martin IV. Continuous operation under family management is a feat bordering on the remarkable, reflecting six generations of dedication to the guitarmaker?s craft. In or out of the music industry, C. F. Martin has few rivals for sheer staying power. Throughout its colorful history, the company has adapted successfully to continual changes in product design, distribution systems, and manufacturing methods. In spite of the many changes, C. F. Martin has never veered away from its initial commitment to quality. The concern for producing the finest instruments possible in 1833 is especially evident today at Martin?s expanded facility in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. The story behind one of America?s most famous guitars began on January 31, 1796, in Markneukirchen, Germany, with the birth of Christian Frederick Martin, Sr. Born into a long line of cabinet makers, Christian Frederick took up the family craft at the early age of 15, when he left his hometown and traveled to Vienna to apprentice with Johann Stauffer, a renowned guitar maker.
