What We Think

Similar to the Phatbob, the 7x14 shell with the Soniclear bearing edges will provide a nice full fundamental note while the Design Lab Air Flow will minimize some of the overtones. The Solidus straight shell design provides a broad tuning range and the 20 lug configuration will ensure that find your sweet spot with ease. Mapex's Cylinder-Drive strainer system affords you an effortless snare wire engagement while also providing a sensitivity dial on both the strainer and butt plate for more flexibility get a precise snare wire setting. For fans of deep and controlled sounds, the Solidus will bring the vibrant tone of maple into to a neat package.

Manufacturer's Description from Mapex

Compeletely redesigned, the Mapex Black Panther Snare Drum Line has undergone some serious upgrades.  Borrowing from the renegade Design Lab series snare drums, there has been some trickle down features that are now found on these new drums, like the Design Lab Air Flow Venting, and the Soniclear Snare Beds to provide enhanced sensitivity.  All bearing edges have the Soniclear edge for easier tuning and head seating, and the the Sonic Saver Hoops are standard on all drums.

The Solidus is unshakable. This drum is a substantial instrument producing a crack that has a profound, bottomless character ripping with a bottomless foundation.

Mapex wants drummers to spend less time tuning and be able to play more. The result is a stronger and deeper fundamental pitch, effortless and consistent tuning, and a significantly expanded tuning range.
