For many years now, Mapex has adopted the use of hybrid shells to achieve sonic results that you can't find from most manufacturers.  The Black Panther Shadow snare drum uses a blend of birch and walnut in a straight shell orientation for a rich and full tone. Mapex have also been using their Soniclear bearing edges and Sonic Saver hoops to help enhace the sound and playing experience. The Soniclear bearing edge allows the drumhead to sit flatter on the shell, making better contact. The result is a stronger and deeper fundamental pitch, effortless and consistent tuning, and a significantly expanded tuning range. The Mapex Black Panther Shadow snare drum brings a workhorse attitude with a touch of sophistication via the Rosewood outer veneer.

Compeletely redesigned, the Mapex Black Panther Snare Drum Line has undergone some serious upgrades.  Borrowing from the renegade Design Lab series snare drums, there has been some trickle down features that are now found on these new drums, like the Design Lab Air Flow Venting, and the Soniclear Snare Beds to provide enhanced sensitivity.  All bearing edges have the Soniclear edge for easier tuning and head seating, and the the Sonic Saver Hoops are standard on all drums.  

The Shadow is gloomy and lends a bit of obscurity to the mix when darkness is the prevailing musical character. Dusky and shady, this drum growls through any midnight groove.
