Sound Pure's Take

George puts a lot of work into all his builds, but his birthday present to the guitar world is something else. The elegant curves remind you of a jumbo in a slope-shouldered 00-sized package, and what you get from that petite shapeliness is very well-balanced tone with sweet midrange, bold bass and smooth treble. The AAAA ebony back and sides surely contribute to that piano-like sound, and the similarly AAAA-graded Alpine spruce softens up the treble content while also providing subtle overtonal complexity and plentiful sustain without sacrificing clarity. The neck is immediately playable, and the finish on the guitar is a Goldilocks fit betweeen satiny and glossy. A very special guitar made by a very special man for a very special birthday.

From Lowden Guitars

George Lowden began building guitars over 45 years ago. His use of the finest tonewoods, proprietary build techniques, and relentless pursuit of perfection has seen our guitars become beloved, played and collected the world over.

July 2021 sees George turn 70 and to mark the milestone, we are releasing a collection of special guitars, limited to just 70 pieces worldwide. This exclusive selection consists of models from across the Lowden range, including the 35 and 50 series along with a carefully selected range of Signature and Specialty collection guitars.

Each guitar will feature a bespoke commemorative internal label, numbered and signed personally by George, unique accompanying provenance documentation, and a soundbox bevel*. Additionally, each guitar will feature a custom LXX (Roman numerals for 70) inlay at the 12th fret designed by inlay specialists, Pearl Works.
