What We Think

When Lauten Audio launched their Series Black line, the LA-320 V1 immediately redefined what recordists could expect from an affordable tube microphone. At Sound Pure, we’ve always loved Lauten’s ability to engineer mics that bridge the gap between boutique, high-end warmth and real-world affordability—and this first-generation LA-320 is a prime example.

Built around a dual-triode 12AX7 vacuum tube, a 1-inch gold-sputtered capsule, and a transformer-balanced output stage, the LA-320 V1 delivers that unmistakable vintage tube personality: subtle harmonic saturation, open highs, and a rich, authoritative low-end. Unlike many sub-$1,000 condensers that suffer from a harsh or hyped top end, the LA-320 maintains a remarkably smooth, balanced frequency response. It injects body and life into digital recordings without creating ear fatigue.

Why We Love It

  • Integrated Dual Sound Shaping: The onboard filters on the LA-320 V1 are a massive advantage in home or project studios. The 120Hz high-pass filter quickly cleans up unwanted room rumble or excessive proximity effect, while the unique 12kHz low-pass filter gently tames overly bright source material or harsh acoustics before the signal even hits your DAW.
  • Tube Harmonics Without the Harshness: The combination of its custom capsule and tube circuit delivers natural, forgiving compression. Sibilance remains controlled, making it a dream for vocalists who need warmth and presence without needing aggressive de-essing later.
  • A Versatile Workhorse: While vocals are its natural calling card, the LA-320 V1 shines across a wide range of applications. It adds depth and body to acoustic guitars, smoothes out brass and string instruments, and works surprisingly well as a warm, punchy mono drum overhead.
  • Complete Out-of-the-Box Setup: It includes a dedicated external power supply, a 5-pin tube cable, a spider shockmount, and a durable hard carrying case—giving you everything required to start tracking high-caliber audio immediately.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking to step into the world of genuine tube preamplification on a budget, the Lauten Audio LA-320 V1 is one of the smartest investments you can make. It provides the weight, musical color, and smooth top-end of a high-end vintage mic at a fraction of the cost—making it a staple for home studios and serious production rigs alike.

Manufacturer's Description from Lauten

You are ready for this

You’ve been recording for a while, you’re starting to learn the sonic difference between different microphones, and now you’re ready to enter the world of vacuum tubes. It’s time for you to let the Series Black LA-320 lead the way into that vintage vacuum tube tone you’ve heard all about. Designed for the budding the recordists, the LA-320 is the best entry into professional quality recordings with a tube microphone. We’ve made it easy to use and affordable for anyone to get serious about their sound.

Independent filters clean your tone

The high and low cut filters make solving common problems in a home, basement or bedroom recording environments easy. The LA-320 features two independent filters located on the microphone and easy to engage via switches located on the front of the microphone. If the room or source is boomy, or you have low-end rumble from outside sources like road noise, furnace, air conditioner etc., turn on the low-cut filter and eliminate the problem. Use the high-cut to roll-off above 12k and tame a bright room or a bright source. What’s even cooler is you can use both filters at the same time resolving many problems before the recording hits your hard drive.

Incredible price performance ratio

Inside the LA-320 is a 1 inch pressure gradient true condenser capsule and dual-triode vacuum tube inspired by those used in classic German microphones. Don’t be fooled by the affordability, the LA-320 features high-quality components often found in much more expensive microphones. We have used our years of experience to create the best performance for the price of any large diaphragm vacuum tube microphone. Any budding engineer is sure to be pleased with the microphone.

Fully equipped and ready for recording

The LA-320 comes fully equipped to get you recording with great results fast. Each microphone includes a classic inspired spider shock mount to isolate the microphone from vibrations, a quality 5-pin tube microphone cable, custom, stable, dedicated power supply with a selectable mains voltage for use in all countries (100, 115v, 230v etc.), and a durable hard case to keep your microphone safe and clean when not in use.

Lauten Audio

About Manufacturer

Based in California, Lauten Audio was founded almost a decade ago by Brian Loudenslager, who saw a need for well thought-out mics with a unique character. Working in collaboration with Grammy nominated engineer and producer Mike Terry and theoretical physicist Dr. Charles Chen, Brian started working on the Horizon, which they wanted to be a unique-sounding work-horse studio microphone. Two years later the Horizon was introduced. 8 years later, Lauten Audio has become known as a leader in original-sounding microphones with unique timbre, and has garnered a loyal following. Lauten audio does not clone classic or vintage microphones, and instead starts with a clean slate to bring you a truly original product.
