We are absolutely thrilled to once again have one of Jimmy Foster's handsome creations gracing us with its presence in our store. Soundpure was a dealer of Jimmy's guitars until his passing and we always loved the toneful, expressive, and masterfully built guitars he created.

This particular custom design predates Jimmy's Performer solidbody series and is dripping with fine appointments and features. The figuring in the quilted maple top looks like a fire frozen in time and the flamed maple neck reminds me of warm sands on a tropical beach. I also love little design quirks like using a knob, rather than a switch, for pickup selection, and I think that aesthetic is perfectly matched to this particular guitar.

Foster's instruments are supreme jazz guitars but the pickup options on this guitar allow for vast tonal variety and versatility. With the added range of a 7 string, you are truly equipped for any and all jazz gigs. Throw on the legacy and rarity of this Jimmy Foster instrument and you have an incredible guitar.

The Performer Series, Foster’s line of solid body guitars, offers a distinctive playability and tone that cannot be found on other solid body guitars. Each instrument features a lightweight basswood body design that is capped with an elegant highly figured maple top. Arm and chest chamfers are also an integral part of the guitar’s design. This offers the player an instrument that possesses a sleek and beautiful appearance while maintaining the lightweight and comfortable feel that is expected from a handcrafted guitar. Each custom neck is painstakingly carved from highly figured maple and is graduated to its final dimensions to ensure optimum fretboard access for its owner. A large variety of translucent or sunburst finishes are available to complete a truly customized work of art.

Jimmy Foster has been practicing the luthier's art for over 30 years. Just as importantly, he's been playing guitar for over 35 years - a rarity among guitar builders. It's this player's perspective, plus his commitment to perfection, that defines the character of each and every Foster Guitar. Jimmy's early musical idols were artists such as Chet Atkins, Les Paul, and Tony Mottola. As his talents developed, Jimmy's taste turned toward the jazz influences of players like Howard Roberts, Johnny Smith, and George Van Eps, the legendary 7-string jazz guitar player. An "everyday man" Jimmy loves to talk to his customers and welcomes their input into the building of their custom instrument.
