The Gretsch Hammered Brass snare drum is part of the Full Range line of snare drums that are currently offered by Gretsch Drums.
Starting with a 1.2mm brass shell, they have added larger hammering to the polished brass shell that not only gives it a distinctive look, it also gives the sound a slightly drier and more focused attack. Adding to that, it is complemented with die-cast hoops which enhance the focus and for you heavy hitters, it really accentuates the rimshots and side sticking. Medium and high tunings are really where it's at with this drum, they deliver clean and concise hits without sacrificing sensitivity. The lower tunings provide smooth fullness while maintaining articulation.
If you are looking for a drum that is at home in a live or recording situation, give this drum a listen.
Brass shells create a pleasantly warm tone that naturally bridges the gap between wood and steel snare drums. The cutting power of metal is present but balanced out by the dark complexity of brass. Gretsch takes the classic recipe one step further and applies a hammering pattern to the shell. This naturally reduces overtones and creates a powerful, focused sound. The Gretsch hammered brass snare drums are finished with Die-cast hoops, REMO drum heads, adjustable throw-offs and fixed butt plates.
For 135 years, the Gretsch Drum Company has produced classic American instruments that drummers the world over covet. The signature “great Gretsch sound” has been utilized by numerous classic and modern drummers alike; Max Roach, Tony Williams, Cindy Blackman, Taylor Hawkins, and Vinnie Colaiuta are just a few examples of master drummers that have sat behind Gretsch kits. Currently, Gretsch’s three lines of professional-grade drums (the Brooklyn, Broadkaster, and USA Custom) are built by a small team of dedicated craftsmen in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Gretsch also offers a number of affordable import lines that allow beginner and intermediate drummers to be a part of drum history and play behind a Gretsch set.
