What We Think

Grace has gone above and beyond to ensure the M905 has not only some of the best sounding D/A converters you can buy, but they really were dead set on making the sexiest and sleekest design with the touch screen remote.  It is NOT all smoke and mirrors, just simply a fantastic touch to a design idea that has been in production (from previous models) for nearly a decade.  The m905 is the upgrade to the older m904 monitor solution as Grace redesigned every aspect of the box with the knowledge from the previous models.

With the m905, updating the converters and bringing them to the highest quality was step one.  The D/A is the heart of your mixing platform as it affects every decision you make.  The D/A is incredibly detailed but isn't overly harsh or pushed.  It allowed us to really dive into our mixes and hear every aspect of what you are doing.  Whether you are polishing the 2 Buss for a mix or dialing just the right reverb for your vocals, you can rely on the D/A in the m905 to deliver.

Now for the part that tops it off, the Remote.  The touch screen design is just fantastic.  It gives you everything you need to set your studio up the way YOU want to monitor.  For us, one of the nicest features is being able to level match 2 different monitors inside the m905.  Nothing is worse than trying to make decisions, changing monitors and having the outputs drastically different between your small pair and large pair of monitors.  Just an example of the depth Grace went to in the design, you can calibrate every aspect of m905 to suit your needs.

Manufacturer's Description from Grace

This is our second generation stereo monitor controller, engineered from the ground up to provide unrivaled sonic purity with a comprehensive and powerful feature set.

The m905 represents a new benchmark for audio playback quality. DAC performance is on par with the finest esoteric mastering equipment available. Our redesigned s-Lock™ PLL ensures ultra-low jitter clock regeneration. An asynchronous USB class 2 interface allows the m905 to act as the master clock of the computer's USB audio bus, effectively eliminating interface induced jitter for computer audio playback. And finally, meticulous analog circuitry measures with outstanding numbers in dynamic range, distortion and noise performance, ensuring bracingly open, detailed and musical playback of any input source.
All main audio and power supply circuitry is housed in a 2U rack mount mainframe, while system control is managed by a sleek, ergonomic remote control unit. This new RCU is a combination of dedicated hardware and a color graphical LCD display. All primary monitoring features are accessed via hardware switches and a rotary encoder, while all system information is presented by the graphic LCD and illuminated switches. This hybrid design allows for the solid feel and function of traditional hardware with the added power and functionality of a graphical user interface.

The GUI is designed so that any engineer unfamiliar with the m905 can use the system immediately and confidently. Then with a minimal time investment, advanced functions can be accessed and controlled with ease. Additional features include: naming individual inputs and speaker outputs, calibrating level offsets of any input and output, setting preset levels, and much more. The setup menus only ever drill down one level, so the main operating screen is always one button away. And when returning to any previously visited setup menu, its previous edit status is remembered, keeping redundant navigation and editing to a minimum.

Grace Design

About Manufacturer

Audio engineer/designer Michael Grace originally began building single order custom audio products for a small, devout following of recording engineers and artists is 1990. Before long, the word had spread about Michael's custom microphone preamplifier designs, which were said to outperform anything else that was commercially available. Based on an increasing demand for his mic preamp design, in 1994 Grace Design was founded and began production of the original 801 mic preamp. Not only did the 801 provide a new level of audio performance and functionality, it helped to establish outboard microphone preamplifiers and direct-to-tape recording as a new standard in professional audio production. Over the years, Grace Design has maintained a steady, methodical pace to developing new products and technologies. Our product line has evolved into a definitive collection of microphone preamplifier configurations and other unique professional audio products. While the professional audio industry is inundated with products seemingly designed for obsolescence, we pride ourselves on providing audio professionals with the finest tools imaginable. Located in Boulder, Colorado, Grace Design continues its mission into the new millennium. As our company grows, we continually strive to improve our production methods to make sure theya re exact, efficient and environmentally sound. Their employees are treated like family and they strive to improve our production mehods to make sure they are exact, efficient and environmentally sound. Our employees are treated like our family and we strive to maintain our business relationships as friendships. And above all, we remain driven by the original passion that founded the company- the love of music.
