Sound Pure's Take

The best Gibsons we've played, both vintage and more recent, all exude a power and a warmth that you just don't get with other manufacturers.  This guitar is a fine, fine example of that classic Gibson tone.  Rich balance from bass to treble is all the more immediate thanks to the volume and projection offered by that long scale.  Our luthier dialed in a fantastic setup that leaves the door open for both fingerpickers and flatpickers alike though, as the name suggests, if you've got a song to sing, you'll have a hard time finding a vocalist's instrument!

Condition: Used, Good

From Gibson Guitars

Following in the tradition of Gibson's popular Songwriter series, the Songwriter Mahogany model, exclusive to Musician's Friend, boasts a pedigree that will make other acoustic guitars envious, as well as world-class construction from the acclaimed luthiers at Gibson Acoustic's facility in Bozeman, Montana. The Songwriter Mahogany is crafted with premium tonewoods and vintage-certified details to make it a proud heir to this storied series. From tone, to playing feel, to appearance, this is a first-class dreadnought, and the perfect choice for anyone from the singer-songwriter to the rock, pop, blues, folk or country performer.

In addition to a solid Sitka spruce top with scalloped spruce braces in a 1930s “advanced-X" pattern, the Songwriter Mahogany has solid mahogany back and sides with a decorative marquetry strip inlaid in the back. Its one-piece mahogany neck has a rounded profile that is extremely comfortable in the hand, and an ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The guitar's 25.5" scale length gives it a bold, deep voice and an extremely firm low end on par with the greatest dreadnoughts of old, perfect for booming out rhythm chords or projecting subtler fingerstyle performances. A 14th fret neck/body joint helps you reach those high notes with ease, and the traditional Gibson 12-inch fingerboard radius contributes to smooth fretting and easy bending.

Performance ready, the Songwriter Mahogany comes equipped with a Fishman Ellipse Matrix Blend pickup system, perfect for running the full, accurate acoustic tone of this premium instrument to your amp or PA of choice. A traditional belly-up bridge made from solid ebony offers enhanced resonance and sustain, while gold Grover Rotomatic tuners provide an elegant touch up top. All these features are enhanced with a hand-sprayed nitrocellulose lacquer available with an Antique Natural or Vintage Sunburst finish.
