The Gibson SG Standard ’61 in Vintage Cherry is an electric guitar that feels alive in your hands—an instrument that invites you to play longer, dig deeper, and discover new sounds every time you pick it up. With its solid mahogany body, slim taper neck, and rosewood fingerboard crowned with acrylic trapezoid inlays, it captures the fiery spirit of the early ’60s while offering rock-solid playability for the modern player. The dual 60s Burstbucker humbuckers deliver everything from warm, vocal-like cleans to roaring, articulate drive, all tamed by a classic set of volume and tone controls plus a smooth 3-way switch. Topped with a gloss nitrocellulose finish and outfitted with the Maestro Vibrola tailpiece, this SG sings with both elegance and edge.
Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
