What We Think

Full and bassy without sounding boomy, there's a lot to love about this New Vintage SJ! Gibson and Wildwood really hit the nail on the head with this one as far as the vintage appointments go. From the aged bone nut and saddle to the 30's-style X-Bracing, all the way down to the hide glue, this guitar has all of the charm and character of a vintage instrument without the vintage price tag. The wood even has that vintage aroma to it! The short scale and soft V neck make this guitar a joy to play, especially in a setting where volume and clarity of tone are key.

Manufacturer's Description from Gibson Guitars

Introduced in 1942 alongside its sister the J-45, shortly before Gibson suspended manufacturing for World War II, the Southern Jumbo is a legendary instrument from a golden age of acoustic guitar production. A large-bodied flat-top of the beloved “round-shoulder dreadnought” breed, this distinctive workhorse is beloved for its ability to belt out a country rhythm or an acoustic blues lead, while retaining an understated elegance in the process.

About Manufacturer

Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
