The Gibson Murphy Lab Firebird is a striking, vintage-inspired instrument that combines iconic design with rich, expressive tone. Its neck-through construction and layered mahogany body deliver impressive sustain and resonance, while the Firebird Alnico V pickups provide clear, punchy tones with a unique blend of warmth and bite. The medium C neck profile and rosewood fingerboard offer a smooth, comfortable playing experience across all 22 frets. Finished in lightly aged Murphy Lab nitro, it captures the look and feel of a well-played original with remarkable authenticity. Bold, resonant, and full of character, this Firebird brings a distinctive voice that stands out in any mix!
When Gibson hired famed automotive designer Ray Dietrich to create a radical new solid body guitar, rock 'n roll history ensued. With its offset shape, neck-through construction, and scorching mini-humbuckers™, the '63 Firebird™ V became an instant classic. The Gibson Custom Shop is proud to present this exacting replica of a vintage original, which uses authentic contours, dimensions and construction methods for an incredible ownership and playing experience. It features Ultra Light Aging by the skilled artisans of the Murphy Lab. The Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged finish treatment, paired with lightly aged hardware, simulates decades of light play wear, giving it the unique character, vibe, and feel of an original example from the Gibson Golden Era.
Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
