I've always dug Smecks. I'm also a big fan of Mr. Browne. This is one incredible instrument. It captures that quintessential tone that carried so many songs into our collective subconscious. If you're looking for a big, yet mellow sound that will provide a rich backdrop to meditative lyrics, this is the guitar for you. They don't build them more piano-like than this.
Five years in the making—through a series of evolving prototypes—the handmade instrument is being produced at the Gibson Montana Acoustic Master Shop in Bozeman, MT. Browne collaborated with the team in Gibson Montana throughout the process. It is the first guitar to bear Browne’s name.
Distinguished by a red spruce top and sustainably—farmed English walnut back and sides, the Jackson Browne Signature model was inspired by Gibson’s legendary 1930s-era Roy Smeck model—several of which are among Browne’s own prized collection of vintage Gibsons—known for its big tone, pure traditional acoustic sound, and flawless projection during concert performance. Responsive and powerful, the “Jackson Browne” has a wide neck, deep round shoulders, and the scale of a classical guitar, with 12 frets to the body. It is as much a fully modern instrument as a vital link to Gibson’s heritage, with innovations including a sophisticated pickup offering unparalleled sound reproduction when amplified, and exceptional gain before feedback capability.
Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
