Released in 2014 to celebrate milestone craftsmanship, the Gibson Firebird V 120th Anniversary combines radical reverse-body styling with high-performance modern enhancements. Built with a classic 9-piece mahogany/walnut neck-through construction flanked by solid mahogany wings, it delivers legendary sustain, resonant punch, and exceptional structural stability at a well-balanced 7 lbs 5 oz. Electronics are powered by Gibson 495R and 495T ceramic mini-humbuckers, capturing the signature Firebird bite with searing output, high-end sparkle, and aggressive midrange clarity. The 1960 Slim Taper neck features a bound Grade-A rosewood fingerboard with undercut frets over binding, a special 12th fret "120th Anniversary" banner inlay, and ultra-precise Steinberger gearless locking tuners (40:1 ratio) for seamless tuning stability. Finished in high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer and detailed with a 3-ply white pickguard bearing the hot-stamped red Firebird graphic, this commemorative solidbody includes a original hardshell case.
Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
