The New Gibson ES-135 brings back a classic Gibson body style from the 1950's and adds the latest in pickup and semi-acoustic technology. The outer body dimensions are the same as the current ES-175 but the 2 1/4" body depth is that of Gibson's vintage ES-125 series. Unlike traditional single cutaway ES models, the neck is joined to the body at the 16th fret for full access to all 22 frets.
A key feature of the ES-135 is Gibson's ES-style body of laminated maple combined with our exclusive South American Chromyte wood center block. Chromyte's light weight and high strength combine with the maple in the body to provide a distinctively crisp, open sound with excellent sustain.
Pickups for the ES-135 are a matched set of Gibson's exclusive P-100 stacked humbuckers. Based on Gibson's famous "P-90" single coil, the P-100 has the full, fat sound and attack of traditional Gibson single coils without the hum present in the originals. With a blend of vintage looks and modern features, the ES-135 is great for any musical style, from rock to jazz to blues to rockabilly.
Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
