What We Think

Condition: Used, Great

We all agree here in the acoustic department--this is a sweet, sweet guitar.  Warm and open tonality, a short scale length, and rich sustain make this Hummingbird True Vintage a joy to play.  The way they've braced this model really does give you that expansive, resonant sound that is prized in vintage instruments.  You'll hear a balanced low end, a glowing mid range, and sweet highs.  This is a strum-happy singer-songwriter's dream but I had a blast playing fingerpicking tunes on it, too.  You better make time to practice with this thing in the house--you're not going to want to put it down!

Manufacturer's Description from Gibson Guitars

Since its introduction in 1960, the original Hummingbird has been one of Gibson Acoustic’s most enduring models. The new Hummingbird True Vintage is a tribute to the icon of Gibson’s square-shoulder dreadnought acoustic line. While the original Hummingbird has evolved over the years to reflect critical advances in acoustic guitar making, the Hummingbird True Vintage is a throwback to the way the instrument looked and played in 1960, satisfying the demands of even the most discriminating vintage guitar buyers.

About Manufacturer

Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
