Sound Pure's Take
The Genelec 8330A is a compact, high-precision nearfield monitor that punch far above its weight class. Utilizing Genelec’s Smart Active Monitoring (SAM) technology, the 8330A takes the guesswork out of small or acoustically challenging control rooms, home studios, and mobile editing suites. It offers the flat, uncolored frequency response, pin-point stereo imaging, and ruthless translation that top-tier mix engineers rely on.
At the heart of the 8330A is its seamless integration with the Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) system. By running automated room calibration, the 8330A actively analyzes your listening environment and compensates for room modes, boundary reflections, and phase issues. Housed in Genelec's iconic die-cast aluminum Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE), its 5-inch woofer and 3/4-inch metal dome tweeter deliver surprisingly tight, distortion-free low end down to 45Hz alongside fatigue-free, crystal-clear high frequencies.
From Genelec
The choice of professionals for whom power and flexibility go hand-in-hand, the 8330A is as acoustically impressive as it is Smart, courtesy of Smart Active Monitoring (SAM™) technology. Housing a 5 inch woofer and 3/4 inch tweeter, the Class D bi-amplified, two-way Smart monitor is compact enough to fit into studios where space is at a premium, yet still capable of exceeding even the most demanding client expectations.
Colour-free accuracy is delivered by the Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE™), while the Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW™) ensures precise frequency reproduction both on- and off-axis. The 8330A is also built to adapt and assist. Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM™) software delivers functions including AutoCal™, ensuring your monitoring system is perfectly calibrated to your listening environment, compensating for detrimental room influences to create a truly optimised monitoring solution. Finally, with GLM you can manage up to 30 Smart monitors and subwoofers, easily creating fully recallable setups from stereo to immersive audio.

GLM Software
For 15 years, GLM software has worked with our Smart Active Monitors to minimise the unwanted acoustic influences of your room and help your mixes sound great, everywhere. GLM 4.1 includes the new AutoCal 2 calibration algorithm and a host of new features - delivering a much faster calibration time and a more precise frequency response.
Lost in translation?
If you’ve ever been frustrated that your mixes don’t translate well to other systems, it’s because your monitors and your room are interacting to produce a frequency response that can be far from the neutral and smooth response that you need to create a great mix that translates consistently to the outside world.
Unleash your creativity
GLM 4 software tightly integrates with the advanced internal DSP circuitry which our growing family of Genelec Smart Active Monitors and Subwoofers is equipped with, from the tiny 8320 to the massive 1236. GLM 4’s reference microphone kit allows your acoustic environment to be analysed, after which GLM 4.1’s AutoCal 2 feature quickly optimises each monitor for level, distance delay, subwoofer crossover phase and room response equalisation, with the option for you to further fine tune the system. So whether you want to improve an already excellent room, or are working in more challenging or ’lively’ sounding spaces, GLM is your friend.
Total control
And that’s not all. Having optimised your monitoring system for your room, GLM acts as a powerful monitor controller – giving you the ability to switch between monitors, maintain precise control of listening levels, and much more.
Created in conjunction with designer Harri Koskinen, the intuitive new GLM 4 user interface fuses clean, attractive aesthetics with a unique character. Harri's inspired hexagonal design also supports the idea of natural growth, so that GLM 4 will help you develop your own listening skills and allow your monitoring system to expand and evolve. And with a choice of 10 languages and both light and dark colour themes, GLM 4 is the most user-friendly version of GLM ever.
Get ready to network
Please note that to enable GLM software to integrate with your Smart Active Monitors, you’ll also need the Genelec network adaptor kit (8300-601) - which includes the GLM network adaptor, 8300A calibration microphone and microphone holder, 1.8 m USB cable and Quick Connection Guide. The network adaptor connects to your Mac or PC via the supplied USB cable, and to your monitors via a 5 metre CAT cable (which is supplied separately with each monitor).
GLM 4 can’t control ‘classic’ Genelec analogue monitors. If you’re using our standard active models, be sure to adjust their rear-panel DIP switches for a neutral frequency response after placement in the room. Full details can be found in every user manual.
