Sound Pure's Take

Here is a used DW Collectors Series consignment drum set from 1998. It features a gloss finish over maple shells with brass hardware. This 4pc set has an 18x22 bass drum and three suspended toms-9x10, 10x12, and 12x14. It's a player's set and not a collector so it has it's fair share of bumps and bruises. The rack toms have some snare drum rash with some top coat missing and the bass drum has the typical pedal rash. The bearing edges and shell interiors appear to be in great condition. For those that are looking for a great working set, or for those ready to upgrade, give this set a try.

From DW Drums

DW's flagship line, the Collector’s Series, are the original US-made custom drums. For years, drum makers have preferred maple for its resonant tonal qualities. Maple is a traditional shell material that provides low-end punch, warmth and attack. This DW Shell Pack features North American Maple shells with 3-ply reinforcement hoops. Toms 8-13" are 6-ply, while 14" and bigger are 7-ply. Bass drums are 7-ply and snare drums are 10-ply (with 6-ply reinforcement hoops).

It also features DW’s patented STM (suspension tom mount) system, which allows drums to vibrate independently, allowing maximum resonance while securely holding the drum in place. Because there are no washers or grommets inhibiting the lug rod receiver, choking is reduced and tuning is as easy as ever. To give drummers even more control over their sound, DW created its patented True-Pitch rod system. The rods feature 5mm threads rather than the 12/24 that’s standard on most other drums. To compare, there is 1 thread every 0.8mm on True-Pitch® rods (about 20% more threads), versus 1 thread every 1.05mm on most other drums. The result is a more exacting tuning process.

DW Collectors Drum Set Features:

  • 6-ply and 7-ply tom shells
  • 7-ply bass shells
  • DW suspension tom mounts
  • True-Pitch rods
  • Brass hardware
  • Drum sizes- 18x22" BD, 9x10" TT,  10x12" TT, 12x14" FT
