Sound Pure's Take

The DPA 4099 CORE represents the gold standard for live acoustic instrument miking, seamlessly bridging the gap between studio-grade sonic fidelity and live stage convenience. Known for its ultra-transparent capture, this clip-on miniature condenser preserves the true acoustic voice of violins, cellos, brass, woodwinds, guitars, and drums without introducing the boxiness, unnatural piezo acoustic pickup quack, or heavy off-axis coloration common to live clip-on mics.

The inclusion of DPA's CORE amplifier technology elevates the original 4099 design by expanding dynamic range and significantly reducing total harmonic distortion across all gain levels. Paired with an exceptionally tight supercardioid polar pattern, the 4099 CORE offers phenomenal gain-before-feedback on loud stages, while its soft, instrument-safe mounting clip system keeps the capsule isolated from mechanical handling noise without risking damage to fine varnish or instrument finishes.

The DPA 4099 CORE is an indispensable tool for touring musicians, sound engineers, and house-of-worship production teams. If you require absolute transparency, maximum feedback isolation, and total mounting flexibility for acoustic instruments on stage or in the studio, the 4099 CORE is the premier clip-on miniature condenser available.

From DPA Microphones (Bruel & Kjaer)

4099 Core Instrument Microphone for Cello is perfect for PA amplification and live recording of a cello. The microphone and mounting system is meticulously designed and optimized for the violoncello. It attaches to the C and A string below the bridge. This places the microphone capsule in the sweet spot between the bridge and fingerboard, offering a unique combination of natural string sound and high audio separation on stage. The sound the 4099 Core Instrument Microphone for Cello provides is considerably more natural than an internal microphone or pick-up.

The 4099 Instrument Microphone series is truly a musician’s mic without equal. This series allows you to achieve the purest reproduction of your instrument. The mics feature supercardioid polar patterns for superior gain-before-feedback. They offer extremely natural sound and are fully capable of handling the cello’s dynamic range and subtle details.

Known for their discreet size and elegance, these mics feature a lightweight design. Yet, 4099 Instrument Microphones are also rugged. The versatile gooseneck provides stable and repeatable positioning. The mics can be easily unclipped and repositioned or moved to another instrument. The mounting system is designed to never blemish or scratch the finish of your instrument. The flexible design supports a wide variety of mounting and positioning possibilities.

Flexible adapter system

The adapters for wireless systems give you flexible, simple and affordable possibilities. You are no longer bound to one wireless system. As circumstances change, you can just switch your adapter, instead of incurring the cost of a whole new microphone. And when you make the switch, you won't hear any loss or change in sound quality.

The 4099 series of miniature microphones work with all leading wireless mic solutions, such as Lectrosonics, Sennheiser, Shure, Sony, Wisycom, Zaxcom and many more. DPA Microphones’ ingenious adapter system is one of a kind in the industry. It protects your investment in fantastic sound for years to come.

Optional gooseneck extension

The standard gooseneck length is 140 mm (5.5 in). An optional gooseneck extensionunit is also available. This adds 50% extra length, which helps reach the sweet spot for some instruments.

Detachable cables

The 4099 Instrument Microphone series features cables that are detachable from the gooseneck. This makes it more convenient to mount the mic on an instrument before connecting it. The 4099C Instrument Microphone for Cello comes with the heavy duty 2.2 mm (0.09 in) cable, which is ideal for PA and live gigs. The thinner 1.6 mm (0.06 in) miniature cable is more appropriate for personal mounting on instruments. You can choose between the different cable qualities, to tailor your mic to a specific task.
