This guitar features a beautifully figured maple top that is probably the best looking top of any of the GCS-1 guitars we've seen. The vintage blond finish adorns it wonderfully, and I have found myself getting lost gazing at the deep, dramatic flame pattern. Aside from its dashing good looks, this piece is exceptionally solid and consistent as a player, and the notes come out feeling smooth and even from top to bottom.
The jazz tone is something l would expect from Bill Comins--his archtops are among the finest in the world--and this guitar certainly does his legacy justice. His custom-wound coil-tapping Kent Armstrong humbuckers are perfectly suited for this instrument and range from the warm, detailed sound of modern jazz-style humbuckers to vintage PAF humbuckers and everything inbetween.
At this price point these guitars are not going to last very long--especially when they look as good as this one does! Call or email Sound Pure today to get a guitar from the first run of what will soon be the historic GCS-1 series!
The GCS-1 is a solidly built semi-hollow guitar designed for musicians looking for a well-made practical and roadworthy musical instrument. Inherently versatile, it can produce a myriad of tonalities suitable for blues, rock, country, and jazz playing. It adorns a laminated flame Maple top with a laminated Sapele back, and the sides/internal block structure are routed from a solid wood core. This design yields a balanced and even articulation with enhanced sustain characteristics. Included is a TKL hard-shell case. A version with a U.S. made Bigsby vibrato is also available.
One of the finest archtop builders in the world, Bill Comins produces instruments of unsurpassed quality. His attention to every detail is immediately evident when you pick up and play one of his guitars. Bill brings the complete package: tone, looks, playability, and craftsmanship. While his instruments pay homage to traditional designs, they also have that unique “Comins” character… warm, fat, and mellow with tone for days. Recently, he has taken his art and expertise to the world of solid-body electric guitars, and been creating some new gems in that arena that are simply to die for. His works are masterpiece collectibles designed to stand up to the test of time.
