Sound Pure's Take
This unit has received a modification from the Coleman factory to increase the flexibility of the talkback. There is now a 1/4" jack for a standard footpedal that activates the talkback along with a dedicated direct out for the talkback signal should you wish to patch it into your own headphone distribution system.
The auxilary speaker out has been re-routed to the AUX OUT for the Cue mix. A switch on the front toggles the AUX OUT between the Cue Mix and the main source. On one setting it can be used to send a mix, including the talkback, to an artist monitoring system. On the other it can be used to feed an alternate set of stereo speakers.
This modification brings its capabilities up closer to that of the MKII version of the TB4 and makes it a far more powerful addition to your studio.
This unit does not have the remote talkback microphone. It is possible to plug any normal dynamic mic into the talkback with the appropriate XLR to mini TRS adapter. This setup has been tested and confirmed.
From Other (Miscellanous Used/Vintage/Consign)
The TB4 is a one space rack mount unit designed to be the control room module and the communication module all in one. There are four balanced stereo inputs and two balanced alternate speaker outputs on XLR connectors. These signal paths are completely passive. No active electronics (i.e. op amps), no relays, no fet switching or VCA's to color the audio signal path. A four ganged gold plated stepped attenuator, that tracks to .05db, is used for level control.
There is a completely seperate stereo cue mix input and output with a master level control on TRS 1/4" jacks.
The talkback has a remote microphone (not included with this unit) with a 12 foot cord so it can be placed near the engineer or producer. The talkback switch silently activates the talkback without any clicks or pops in the headphones, dims the control signal and the talkback level controls amount of signal going to cue mix.
The engineers headphone, mounted on the front panel, selects either the control room signal or the cue mix. It also has a separate output and level control.
