The Chandler Limited Little Devil Pre is one of those mic pres that immediately feels alive the moment you pass signal through it.
At its core, it’s a Class A, discrete 500-series preamp with transformer-balanced I/O, but describing it that way almost undersells what it actually does. The Little Devil isn’t just about clean gain—it’s about attitude, texture, and shaping the personality of a source in a very intentional way.
What really sets it apart is the Feedback/Bias control. That single feature takes the pre from open and punchy into increasingly harmonically rich territory, letting you move from relatively clean, forward tones to something thicker, softer, and almost tube-like in the way it saturates. It’s one of those controls that rewards experimentation because there are so many usable sounds hiding in it.
Sonically, it has a big, confident sound. The low end feels solid and weighty, the mids push forward in a really satisfying way, and the top end stays smooth even when you’re driving it hard. There’s a certain immediacy to it that works especially well on guitars, drums, vocals, and bass DI.
And that DI deserves mention on its own. Plugging instruments straight into the front panel feels less like using a utility input and more like running through a dedicated tone box. Bass and synths in particular can sound huge through it, especially once you start leaning into the gain staging and feedback controls.
