What We Think

Condition: Used, Excellent

Absolutely tremendous.  The already fantastic OMS design (12 fret OM) has reached the highest of heights in this model with the addition of a cutaway, large soundhole, and premium tonewoods.  Open and far reaching as well as intimate and impossibly responsive, it's simply mind boggling how downright good it feels to play this guitar.  Every note is truly an inspiration.  The fundamentals are clear but the overtone content is, too--hanging and sustaining in perfect contrast to the underlying purity of tone.  Is it surprisingly comfortable for its sound or surprisingly strong and commanding for something of its size?  No need to figure this perfect paradox out--just play it and everything else falls away!

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

OM, 14 Fret 25.5” scale: You can think of the Vintage OM as a smaller version of our Dreadnought--or maybe it's the other way around. Because of its characteristic superb balance, clarity of voice, and sustaining top register, the OM is often thought of as the quintessential fingerstyle guitar. It's not surprising, though, that more than a few players appreciate these same characteristics not only for flatpicking but also for a variety of other applications. We scallop both sides of the X brace on our OM. This provides the” looseness” required in a smaller guitar to produce a clear, strong bass response, and power and projection that belies its size.

Bourgeois Guitars

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
