What We Think

This Heirloom Series Vintage OM certainly lives up to its name. For one, Bourgeois perfectly captures that familiar 28-series look with classically elegant appointments: herringbone purfling, creamy ivoroid binding, nickel Waverly butterbean tuners, a sprinkling of geometric abalone inlaid in the ebony fretboard, a tortoise-shell teardrop pickguard and a deceptively simple "zipper" back strip. It sounds as classic as it looks. The Sitka spruce top will deliver exactly what you throw at it, from warm, even strumming to bright, flashy single-note runs. It's an uncanny bit of compression; the wood responds so perfectly, you'll swear this guitar is in your head. And after you play it, it'll stick around there for a while.

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

OM, 14 Fret 25.5” scale: You can think of the Vintage OM as a smaller version of our Dreadnought--or maybe it's the other way around. Because of its characteristic superb balance, clarity of voice, and sustaining top register, the OM is often thought of as the quintessential fingerstyle guitar. It's not surprising, though, that more than a few players appreciate these same characteristics not only for flatpicking but also for a variety of other applications. We scallop both sides of the X brace on our OM. This provides the” looseness” required in a smaller guitar to produce a clear, strong bass response, and power and projection that belies its size.

Bourgeois Guitars

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
