What We Think

This is what Bourgeois is all about!  A classic look straight from Martin's golden era (I mean, really, look at those pictures) and a sound that only Dana's present day wizardry could produce.  It's incredible how close that beautifully cured East Indian sounds to its more costly Brazilian and Madagascan cousins.  Dark, deep lows, a pleasant scoop to the mids to balance out the bodystyle's natural mid-heavy nature, and highs that ring out full and pure.  This guitar also happens to be a self-proving argument for the torrefaction process, Bourgeois' in particular.  The punch, resonance, and richness that practically explodes out of this guitar are what you'd expect from an instrument that's been around for decades.

Did we mention Dana tried to keep this one for himself?

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

Pure Elegance. Our Style 42 is the crown-jewel of our product offerings, featuring an 19th-century inspired abalone top purfling. The abalone material we use is prepared exclusively for us, hand chosen to be highly figured with many multi-colored facets for optimum light-reflection. We spend many hours applying the inlay by hand, carefully matching each piece to ensure a beautiful, seamless appearance. Our DB Snowflake inlay and Presentation headstock inlay are exclusive to us, an add another level of style and sophistication to this model. The backstrip is our DB Signature pattern, with alternating maple and rosewood pieces in an arrow formation creating a very intricate and stunning aspect. Accentuated with engraved gold tuners from Waverly and fossil walrus bridge pins, this model epitomizes beauty. While the standard back & side woods for the Style 42 is Indian Rosewood, our customers frequently choose upgraded exotic options for this model. We often build these with the very best Brazilian Rosewood from Dana's reserves, and we also reserve our finest top woods for these guitars. Contact your local dealer for information regarding custom options and special order opportunities.

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
