Sound Pure's Take

The API SV12 brings the unmistakable punch and harmonic richness of API’s classic console compressor architecture into the versatile 500 Series format. Designed around API’s proprietary 2520 operational amplifier and custom output transformers, the SV12 delivers the authoritative VCA compression that has shaped decades of rock, pop, and funk records.

What sets the SV12 apart in a rack full of 500 Series modules is its dual-mode detector topology. It allows engineers to switch effortlessly between Old (classic feedback compression, reminiscent of vintage console channels) and New (modern feedforward compression, offering precise, aggressive transient control). Paired with API’s signature Thrust® circuit—which places a high-pass filter before the detector to keep heavy low-end energy from choking the compressor—the SV12 maintains punch and clarity across kick drums, bass guitars, snare tracks, and full mix buses.

From API Audio

The API Select SV12 features the original compressor circuit designed for the ATI Paragon live analogmixing consoles. Re-engineered for the 500 Series format, the SV12 provides comprehensive, easy-to-use compression with full LED metering of both output and gain reduction. The unit also includes API’s patented THRUST® circuitry which protects sensitive high frequency content of the audio signaleven under the mostvigorous of compression ratios. Two channels can be linked for use as a stereocompressor with true RMS power summing of the left and right signals.

Features
