What We Think

Condition: Used, Vintage, Good. This guitar was made 60 years ago and bears wear, repairs, and cosmetic features that should be nothing less than expected for an instrument of this age.

SP Luthier Notes: The frets as they were could not be repaired to an acceptable state so they were replaced with spec accurate fretwire and shaped into near mint condition. Inlays that were missing upon arrival to us were made and set into the fingerboard. Other inlays were reglued. A new nut was made and installed for this guitar. (A) Minor dent(s) present on the guitar required our luthier to fill, color match, and refinish the area. A complete wipedown and cleaning of this instrument was done. The truss rod and bridge were fully adjusted. No further work was required.

Here is a true 60-year-old vintage warrior! This 1965 Gibson Firebird bears the proud, honest wear of its history, but make no mistake—this is not an "as-is" wall-hanger. It's a rock-solid investment that our luthiers have meticulously prepared to be a supremely playable instrument. It boasts a fresh, period-correct refret, a new custom-made nut, and has had its beautiful rosewood inlays expertly restored and re-set. We even professionally filled and color-matched minor dings! This Firebird is now 100% dialed-in. You get that legendary 9-ply "neck-thru" sustain, the fiery bite of its original 1960s firebird pickups, and the desirable full 1 11/16" nut width. This is a rare bird that plays incredibly and absolutely sings!

About Manufacturer

Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
