What We Think

The Tama Starclassic series has been in a constant state of evolution since its inception in 1994. The Performer series initially started as an all birch set alternative the Starclassic Maple set. The newest version now fuses both Birch and Maple to create the reinvisioned Starclassic Performer. The hyrbid shell design consists mostly of Birch plies on the outside and two plies of Maple on the interior to create a complex and expressive tone. Staying true to the Starclassic series, the toms are outfitted with diecast hoops for a crisper attack and a more consistent tuning experience. The Star-Cast Mounting System has always provided maximum resonance and stability for Tama's pro-drums while also making it easier to position toms closer together for greater ease and comfort. The package is rounded out with Evans heads coated G1 for the batter heads and Power Craft for the resonant heads while the bass drum receives the EQ4.

Manufacturer's Description from Tama

The combination of maple/birch projects with the warmth of maple and the clarity of birch.Tones are clean, articulate and very well balanced. The voice around the kit blends clearly, the die-cast hoops produce clear, punchy, full tones.

Star-Cast Mounting System
The Star-Cast Mounting System on this Tama drum shell pack provides maximum resonance and stability for Tama's drums. A streamlined design makes it easier to position toms closer together for greater ease and comfort. Aluminum provides lighter weight and even truer tonal vibration.

Die-cast hoops
Hoops not only affect drum tuning, they also affect drum sound. For the Starclassic Series, Tama chose zinc die-cast hoops, which are manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than triple-flanged hoops, which are manufactured by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension-bolts always contact the hoop properly. Drums fitted with die-cast hoops also offer crisper attack, clear and resonant highs, and much more powerful rim shots.

Claw hooks
Tama Starclassic Performer's claw hooks feature rubber spacers that help protect wood hoops from damage. The hooks and hoops work as one unit and won't separate or rattle, even on loose tunings.

Evans heads
Evans G1 coated batter and TAMA clear single-ply Power Craft II resonant heads are equipped on the toms. Bass drums include Evans clear EQ4 batter heads, Tama resonant head with muffle ring.

Throne, snare, hardware, and cymbals not included.
