Sound Pure's Take

Condition: Used, Very Good

Returning to your roots often yields the sweetest fruit--it just doesn't get sweeter than this new model from Collings!  This guitar hasn't just been inspired by vintage design; Bill Collings and his team have committed to making a genuine, thoroughly researched, classic OM.  The spec sheet alone had us excited (not to mention the handmade case that comes standard)!  You just don't see this level of care and consideration in many guitars and the result here is an instrument that truly sounds old, wizened, and complex. The Adirondack top breathes all the more freely thanks to the hide glue, unusually-thin nitro lacquer, and scalloped bracing specific to the Traditional series.  The dynamic range is both sophisticated and balanced.  Very full, almost slope-shoulder-like bass, warm but never woolly mids, and clear, sparkling highs free from any trace of the strident voice a new Adirondack top starts with.  This OM1 AT sounds like its been singing for years--the music has only just begun!

From Collings Guitars

The Traditional or "T" Series guitars reflect Bill Collings' return to his guitar making roots and offer a new tonal variation on the distinctive Collings sound. Each T Series guitar is built using animal protein glue and a very thin all nitrocellulose lacquer finish on the body, making them exceptionally dynamic and responsive. Bracing and tone woods are adjusted for weight and thickness to create a voicing characterized by warm, rounded highs and a present low midrange, while retaining a quick attack and strong projection. Each Traditional series guitar will come with a handmade lightweight Collings case designed and built in the Collings shop. The pairing of these new Traditional guitars and cases makes for a combination of old world quality and aesthetic that is unprecedented among instruments available today.
