What We Think

Condition: Used, Good

The owner of this guitar had the bridge pins and saddle upgrade to fossilized ivory.

Being a huge fan of Dana Bourgeois' work I was beyond excited to hear that we were getting the last guitar crafted at the shop on Cedar St. AND it is a burst that is worth seeing in person. This guitar has a very big sound that will fill the room quickly and the Aged Adirondack Spruce top gives the guitar a bit more airy and relaxed sound that just feels incredible while you're playing it. The short scale on this model helps a lot with playability and for such a relatively large instrument, the slope D had me leaning back and listening rather than fighting the guitar. This is the instrument that lesser guitars should circle around and bask in the un-shakeable foundation that it provides, and be happy that they get to sneak a note into the gorgeous universe that this slope D creates.

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

Our slope shouldered dreadnought is only about 1/4" wider than a standard dreadnought, but what a difference! Voiced for a more open, though less driving, sound than the Dreadnought, the Slope D happily accommodates a wide variety of playing styles including country, blues, old timey, pop, contemporary, and--you name it. And if you're a fingerstyle player looking for a dreadnought-sized guitar that can handle fingerpicks or bare fingers as well as flatpicks, the Slope D is definitely your guitar! The Slope D is also available as a Slope D, 14 Fret, 25” short scale: Relaxed playability; warmer than the long scale version, without significant loss of volume.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
