What We Think

Inspired by look and sound of Martins "Golden Era," this guitar is a prime example of Dana's talent for taking the revered pillars of American guitar building and raising the roof that much higher.  The dynamic range of this instrument and the degree of note separation found therein is absolutely stunning.  The Rosewood back/sides offer tears-in-your-eyes bass, a shimmery but not overly bright top end, and the rich, overtoney drama you'd want out of a Rosewood dread.  That Sitka top is one in a million--torrefied to lend the instrument greater openness and warmth, draped in one of Dana's hand-done sunbursts to lend the whole instrument an elegance that brings to mind the wisdom of old world with the possibility of the new.  10/10!

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

Our most popular model, the square shoulder pre-War style Dreadnought delivers ample power to cut through any performance situation. Featuring Dana's unique, single-scalloped X brace system, our Dreadnought has become a bluegrass classic, offering a blend of balance and clarity absolutely required for flatpicking, highly desirable for most other styles of playing, but rarely found in a contemporary dreadnought.

Bourgeois Guitars

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
