Less than a decade ago, Blackheart started emerging in the United States and quickly became a favorite veneer for those that wanted a unique instrument with exciting visual characteristics. Blackheart veneers produced stark contrasting lines of dark streaks that were both bold and lucid and really stood out from the rest of the normal veneer offerings of the time. Couple this beautiful veneer with a great timber like Gidgee and you have the makings of something really special.
Gidgee is a really unique timber from Australia with beautiful figure and extreme hardness. This particular 6.5x13 snare drum from Metro features an 8 ply Gidgee shell with 4 ply Gidgee reinforcing rings which have a shell thickness of 3/8" at its thickest point. Through our testing, we loved the attack and frequency response this shell offered throughout the tuning ranges. The 45-degree bearing edges craft immaculate definition and articulation while the shallow snare beds serve up sensitivity for the most delicate of stick taps. Black chrome hardware wraps up the ensemble as a subtle tie-in without taking away from the beauty of the veneer.
For players who like high and bright tunings, this Gidgee ply snare drum from Metro will be sure to excite your senses.
