What We Think

In an ongoing quest for new sounds, Meinl has developed what may be one of their best options yet inside the Extra Dry series. Stepping away from the traditional lathing style on top of the cymbals, Meinl opted for the raw and tightly hammered look. The hammering adds focus and a trashy quality that is rarely achieved in modern cymbals. The lathed undersides knock down some weight and adds to the dark and smokey sounds. The Dual crashes are a stunning contrast of extra dry and brilliant finish with a unique combination of hammering and lathing. Dual playing zones for riding and crashing. Opens up easily for trashy accents.

Manufacturer's Description from Meinl

Living up to their name, these cymbals are extremely dry, with low-pitched, trashy sounds and short sustain. The raw unlathed surfaces and extensive hand hammering suggest that their sound might be loud and fierce. In reality, the Extra Dry series reveals its dark, earthy tones and comes to life when played at lower volumes.

About Manufacturer

Only MEINL uses 6 different alloys for crafting cymbals, which is more than any other cymbal maker is using today. Because of that, we are able to offer the widest selection of basic cymbal sound characteristics available. Striving for the realization of any possible sound idea makes it necessary to have this diversity, the background in and knowledge of all those different materials.

Constantly trained and highly qualified employees master all challenges within our production team. Most of them are drummers themselves! And if someone is not and starts working for us, we pay for the drum lessons. They know why they are doing what they do, and don’t consider it just another 9 to 5 job. It’s that dedication which makes the difference you can hear!
