The new Mapex Saturn Evolution birch/walnut shell formula perfectly combines the sonic characteristics of walnut with articulate punch of birch, delivering a Dark, Punchy, Dry sound. You may have seen this hybrid shell design once before from Mapex as a special edition almost ten years ago, but it has made a return within the Saturn Evolution with a few refinements taken from the top-tier Design Lab. The new "Halo" mount uses a unique "under lug-line" suspension system which unlocks the full resonance of the drum and allows for easy head changes while the toms are still mounted on the hardware. The Adjustment Knob acts as a built-in Equalizer that can slightly dampen the resonance of the shell, producing a tighter and quicker decay. Borrowed from the Mapex Design Lab, the Saturn Evolution also adopts the Nodal Line Air Flow Venting system for an open and lively responding drum.
These shells are crowned with Remo Emperor clear batter drumheads, and Remo P3 Batter bass drumheads so they will be ready to rock right out of the box. You may have a hard time deciding on your favorite finish. And even if you can, you may not be sure whether you want to play them…or just stare at them.
