The Gretsch USA Custom Black Copper snare drum starts with a 1 mm shell made from pure copper. Copper is known for its combination of dry warmth, punch and dynamic range which makes for a nice addition to the Gretsch family of snare drums. Gretsch decided to add a thin layer of black powdercoating on the inside and outside of the shell which mutes some of the overtones while also creating visual appeal. As with most classic Gretsch metal snares, this drum features the Lightning throw-off, die-cast hoops, and the snappy 42-strand wires. The finishing touch to this beauty is the laser-engraved round badge which exposes the copper shell below.
The versatile, mic-friendly sound of copper finished in a stealthy black powder coat. Each drum begins with a thin 1mm copper shell with integrated bearing edges and snare beds. The painted interior and exterior adds just the right amount of control to augment the sonic character of the drum. The finishing touch is a laser engraved round badge logo which exposed the copper beneath.
For 135 years, the Gretsch Drum Company has produced classic American instruments that drummers the world over covet. The signature “great Gretsch sound” has been utilized by numerous classic and modern drummers alike; Max Roach, Tony Williams, Cindy Blackman, Taylor Hawkins, and Vinnie Colaiuta are just a few examples of master drummers that have sat behind Gretsch kits. Currently, Gretsch’s three lines of professional-grade drums (the Brooklyn, Broadkaster, and USA Custom) are built by a small team of dedicated craftsmen in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Gretsch also offers a number of affordable import lines that allow beginner and intermediate drummers to be a part of drum history and play behind a Gretsch set.
