Inspired by the great American car companies from the 1950’s, the Renown57 incorporates timeless, iconic car design elements and applies them to drums. The “hood ornament” is the Renown chevron, an aluminum triangular teardrop painted white with raised beveled chrome edges and embossed chrome Gretsch logo. Renown57 has standard Renown Maple specifications that produce punchy, full tones and rock solid performance.
The Gretsch Renown series brings the distinctive Great Gretsch sound at a lower price for working drummers while still retaining the classic Gretsch features. 30-degree bearing edges, the silver sealer interior, and the classic Gretsch lugs are shared classic features derived from the USA Custom line. The new Gretsch Renown drums bring a change from die-cast hoops to the '302' hoops. These hoops can be found on Gretsch's Brooklyn and Broadkaster series drums. Gretsch '302' hoops produce a similarly focused sound to Die-Cast hoops, but are lighter in weight and less rigid, allowing the drum to breathe a little more to achieve its maximum resonance. Complemented with new tom- suspension mounts, USA Remo heads, and easily adjustable T-Wing screws the Gretsch Renowns continue to improve and enhance what is already a tried and tested formula.
In January, 2011, Gretsch went against the grain and conventional design by introducing Renown 57. The unique look thanks to its classic car colors and the Chevron logo immediately became a hit throughout the world and almost 10 years later we still receive order requests for them.
In response to the many requests, for only one year we are introducing a new breed in the coveted series: Renown 57 - Silver Oyster Pearl. The basis of the kit’s formula mimic’s today’s RN2 by adapting the 7-ply maple shell, 30 degree bearing edges, 302 hoops, silver sealer interiors, and Low Profile GTS system.
Today’s RN57 have bass drums with no mounts and traditional 14” depths, just what Gretsch enthusiasts often ask for. Both configurations are offered in our Silver Oyster Pearl Nitron.
For 135 years, the Gretsch Drum Company has produced classic American instruments that drummers the world over covet. The signature “great Gretsch sound” has been utilized by numerous classic and modern drummers alike; Max Roach, Tony Williams, Cindy Blackman, Taylor Hawkins, and Vinnie Colaiuta are just a few examples of master drummers that have sat behind Gretsch kits. Currently, Gretsch’s three lines of professional-grade drums (the Brooklyn, Broadkaster, and USA Custom) are built by a small team of dedicated craftsmen in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Gretsch also offers a number of affordable import lines that allow beginner and intermediate drummers to be a part of drum history and play behind a Gretsch set.
