What We Think

When we got our hands on the original Elysia Mpressor we were surprised by the innovative controls on the compressor. What we learned was that the Mpressor was designed to give you an incredible amount of control over what you’re doing with the compressor. We were able to bend and shape the mix in ways you can’t with most compressors.  The negative ratios allow you to get incredibly aggressive and add in that “pump sound” by dialing in exactly the compression you need.  The Gain Reduction Limiting isn’t really a limiter, it instead acts as a governor for your compression.  It won’t allow the compression circuit to go beyond your desired amount of compression no matter the source material.  This is fantastic as it allows you to dial in compression that will work across your entire song without over compressing as the tracks get louder.

The Mpressor has been a gem on a drum buss. It breathes life and excitement in a way that would take multiple instances of other “go-to compressors” and lots of knob twisting to do what the mpressor can do in just a few setting adjustments. All while keeping the original sound clean, open and adding depth and punch; or you can really push it into some nice coloration when needed.

With the release of the 500 series version, for about a 1/7th of the price of it’s big full size brother, the Mpressor 500 is a must have.  While they did have to remove the Tilt style EQ (only so much room in 500 series gear), they were able to retain the best, and most unique  features of the compressor.  The Mpressor 500 still has the the Anti-Log release curve as well as the unique gain reduction limiter.  This means you can still drive, push, pummel and experiment with your tracks just as you could with the original Mpressor.

Elysia has been on the forefront of pushing 500 series designs ever since they released the original Xpressor.  With features and options you just don’t see on other gear, the Mpressor 500 is truly a unique compressor for mono tracks or in stereo on the buss

Manufacturer's Description from Elysia

The mpressor 500 delivers high-end studio processor manufacturer elysia’s heritage of their extremely powerful rack mount mpressor to the 500 series format. Like its bigger brother, the mpressor 500 combines serious punch with a full and detailed class-A sound. Its great tone and flexibility make it an excellent choice for recording and mixing, while its remarkable special features take it far beyond the borders of what normal compressors can do.

Extreme time constants, negative ratios, “antilog” release and elysia’s innovative gain reduction limiter provide a whole spectrum of unique dynamics shaping options. A new feature of the 500 series module is its switchable THD boost, allowing on-the-fly signal coloration and saturation effects capable of delivering a different, grittier flavor.

“It’s been quite a challenge to transfer such a sophisticated discrete design into the 500 series form factor”, says elysia's head of development, Ruben Tilgner. “But after using and listening to the final version of the mpressor 500, we are truly pleased with what we have achieved”.

About Manufacturer

The beginning was an obsession. Would it actually be possible to build special gear with these features and sound characteristics? Well, since then Elysia has become a union of creative audio enthusiasts who have a clearly defined objective: the development and production of high-quality studio equipment featuring that certain something. We do not want to settle for the status quo and rehash existing concepts time and again. Our objective is rather to adapt our products to current demands in everyday studio life. The initiators of the company founded in Nettetal (Germany) in 2005 are Ruben Tilgner and Dominik Klaen. Affected by countless live and studio experiences as well as by over ten years of pro audio experience they finally created elysia in order to make their personal sound philosophy come true. Ruben looks back on many successful development projects: besides others, he has designed the Transient Designer, the GainStation and the MixDream for SPL. Based on his experience on the marketing sector, Dominik Klaen concentrates on communication, documentation and all topics related to product design. The independence of our enterprise enables us to follow extreme paths in our work. We like to try out a lot and are only satisfied when there is nothing left to improve. Besides, we never discard unconventional ideas airily we test all of them and never form our opinion before doing so. Our most important rule is that the ear always comes first, but we also like to please the eye by reflecting the inner values of our devices on the outside with an exclusive design. This is the basis on that our audio equipment is built. We set value on highest sound quality, exclusive use of top grade components, perfect operability and reliability, appealing product design, exemplary documentation and implementation of innovative features without any Voodoo, but with real profit for daily usage.
