Manufacturer's Description from Earthworks

The SR117 features a supercardioid polar pattern that focuses audio capture in a tight, narrow band in front of the capsule, helping to reduce feedback problems when sound reinforcement equipment is used. In addition, the SR117 is nicely suited for recording sessions in untreated home studios and control rooms, as it picks up fewer off-axis selections that can color the sound. With the ability to handle SPLs up to 140 dB, the microphone can be used on very loud vocalists and instruments without distorting. Singers and musicians will also appreciate the enhanced protection from handling, wind, and plosive noise, allowing them to worry less about mic technique and focus instead on delivering powerful performances. A microphone clip and carrying bag are included.

Condenser Clarity Meets Dynamic Reliability

  • Suitable for any singer or instrument
  • Designed for live stage performances but works equally well for televised productions, worship, and home recordings
  • Sounds natural and true on any voice
  • Tight pattern control across all frequencies offers maximum feedback rejection
  • Voiced with rich, clear lows, smooth vibrant mids, and open airy highs
  • The high SPL prevents clipping from even the most powerful vocalists
  • Consistent pattern control enables more directionality and usability ensuring that you keep a good tone and volume level even when vocalists pull away
  • Enhanced wind, plosive, and sibilance protection
  • Minimal handling noise
  • Designed for very high gain before feedback
  • Tight supercardioid polar pattern
  • Excellent off-axis rejection
  • Balanced, vibrant, and natural sound right out of the box
  • Frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz
  • XLR connector, requires 48V phantom power

About Manufacturer

Earthworks was formed by David Blackmer, the inventor of dbx, to realize his vision of upgrading the entire audio chain to a new standard of sonic realism. David's goal of creating high definition tools with which to capture the sound and experience of "being there" is based upon a strong evidence that there is more to human hearing than the range of frequencies which can be heard as tones. We are convinced that audio equipment with extended frequency response and faster, cleaner time domain performance will yield more life-like results. Traditional audio methadology appears to be based on working around the limitations, imperfections, and personality quirks of the equipment, and calling the ones you like "assets". WE believe that any part of the audio chain can be improved to the point where the standard is so high that any product meeting it will be indistinguishable from any other product meeting the same standard, and that an audio system built to such standard can achieve sonic reality. This standard, for electronic equipment, is met by our Zero Distortion Technology. We support the concept of recording acoustic events accurately enough to capture the sound as it happened in the room. This approah allows you to make sonic coloration and texture choices later, when you can consider them carefully and still have recourse. Life-like accuracy is the best starting point for whatever unique coloration you may wish to add.
