Sound Pure's Take
Brady drums are legendary instruments with reputations that precede them. We were absolutely ecstatic when this used Jarrah Ply Kit arrived at the shop. Jarrah is a relatively hard and dense wood; it ranks higher on the Janka Hardness scale than Hard Maple, Hickory, and even Bubinga. These physical properties give Jarrah a dark and powerful tone with an incredible volume ceiling. Chris Brady's use of this tonewood was as revolutionary as his building methods were when he started his company in the late '80's. These methods led to drums that share the tonal characteristics of solid shell drums while maintaining the stability of ply-drums.
This particular kit is here on consignment and is in very good condition. The tension rods spin smoothly in their lugs with little difficulty, making tuning a breeze. The hardware does feature some light pitting, which can easily be polished back to like-new condition. The Halls Creek Satin finish has gently aged over ten years, leading to a subtly striking finish which allows the natural Jarrah grain to show through.
From Brady Drums
Brady was the only company of its kind, able to produce their own ply shells in a revolutionary method pioneered by Chris Brady in 1988. The shells are made in a dry-mould system using individual Select Grade plies of Spotted Gum wood. The drum is pressed in a straight-grain method. All timber grain runs in the same horizontal direction around the drum shell (not cross-laminated), giving them a solid-wood sound, previously unknown in a ply shell.
