What We Think

Another flawless instrument from Bourgeois!  The fit, finish, and feel alone are enough to stun.  But the voice on this short scale, slope shoulder, Adirondack/Mahogany instrument is capable of beguiling just about any player, working in any style.  The slight loss of articulation that happens in the move from a long scale to a short scale is wonderfully balanced by the Addy's crisp, clean response and insistent sustain.  In turn, the warmth and gutsy-ness (if you push it!) is supplemented by a gorgeous set of Mahogany and its glowing, direct response.  Truly versatile in feel and voice!

Manufacturer's Description from Bourgeois

Our slope shouldered dreadnought is only about 1/4" wider than a standard dreadnought, but what a difference! Voiced for a more open, though less driving, sound than the Dreadnought, the Slope D happily accommodates a wide variety of playing styles including country, blues, old timey, pop, contemporary, and--you name it. And if you're a fingerstyle player looking for a dreadnought-sized guitar that can handle fingerpicks or bare fingers as well as flatpicks, the Slope D is definitely your guitar! The Slope D is also available as a Slope D, 14 Fret, 25” short scale: Relaxed playability; warmer than the long scale version, without significant loss of volume.

Bourgeois Guitars

About Manufacturer

Bourgeois Guitars are defining the future of vintage tone, combining old-world hand-voicing techniques with modern innovations in design and materials. Built in a ca. 1850s mill in the industrial town of Lewiston Maine, master luthier Dana Bourgeois and his small team of highly skilled craftsman produce some of the finest steel-string instruments available today.

Known for tonal excellence, meticulous craftsmanship and top-notch materials, they are played by six-string luminaries such as Bryan Sutton, Ricky Skaggs, Sean Watkins, Della Mae, the late Doc Watson and countless professional and nonprofessional enthusiasts. Bourgeois guitars have had a prominent role in the American steel-string guitar renaissance for more than two decades, helping shape acoustic music’s most recent rise in popularity.
