Manufacturer's Description from Audio-Technica

Compact condenser microphone designed for use with violins, violas, flutes, and other woodwind instruments

Introducing Audio-Technica’s newest cardioid condenser instrument microphone. Designed for professional live and studio use, the ATM355VF is available with a wide range of mounts that make it incredibly easy to accurately capture sounds from string, woodwind, and various other instruments. The flexible gooseneck design means the microphone stays in the ideal position even during lively performances.

High-sensitivity microphone for clear, balanced sound at up to 148.5 dB SPL

The cardioid directivity characteristics of the ATM355VF provide excellent frontal sensitivity for advanced feedback control and excellent isolation with minimal capture of unwanted sounds.

AT8543 power module with switchable 80 Hz low-cut filter to reduce unwanted low-frequency sound

The ATM355VF comes with an AT8543 power module that can be connected to the mic cable’s locking 4-pin connector for wired applications. This power module features a 3-pin XLRM output connector and a switch for selecting between flat response and low cut (using an 80 Hz high-pass filter). In addition to this wired configuration, the termination on the ATM355VF can be connected to Audio-Technica cW-style bodypack transmitters.

Additional wireless terminations include:

ATM355VFcW (included with ATM355VF wired model only) terminated for Audio-Technica cW-style wireless body-pack transmitters

ATM355VFcH terminated for Audio-Technica cH-style wireless body-pack transmitters

ATM355VFCT4 terminated for Shure Wireless Systems

ATM355VFCLM3 terminated for Sennheiser Wireless Systems

Flexible, lightweight gooseneck design

The flexible gooseneck makes it possible to point the microphone in any direction, reducing touch noises and lessening the strain on the 1.8 m cable. The microphone itself is held in place by a windscreen to isolate noise from the instrument and protect the device from unintentional damage.

Interchangeable elements enable hypercardioid and omnidirectional pickup

Using the ATM355VF with the UE-O element (sold separately) makes it possible to switch to omnidirectional characteristics, while the UE-H element (sold separately) offers hypercardioid characteristics. Choose from a wide range of possibilities to suit your sound-capturing environment. Choose from a wide range of possibilities to suit your sound-capturing environment.

Includes Dedicated Mounts

The included mounts make it easy to position the microphone correctly for any string or woodwind instrument while also protecting the device from shock and damage.

AT8491V violin mount

Designed for instruments with a body depth of 30 to 55 mm, the clip-type violin mount holds the front and back plates in place for easy one-handed attachment and removal. The design ensures minimal contact with the instrument to greatly reduce sound attenuation and prevent any loss in resonance. The special material and design of the AT8491V also help prevent damage to the surface of the instrument.

AT8491F flute mount

The AT8491F flute mount is designed for flute diameters of 12 to 30 mm. The rounded contact surface ensures it can be mounted on not only flutes and other wind instruments but any cylindrical object, including microphone stands. Contact surfaces are also made of a scratch-resistant material that will not damage instrument surfaces.
