What We Think

Condition: Used, Excellent. This instrument was made in 1964, and has small cosmetic scratches or dings that should absolutely be nothing less than expected of an instrument this age. This instrument has a Brazilian Rosewood Fingerboard. This guitar has Spliced Pickup Leads, Replaced Strap Buttons, a new nut, a replaced bridge, and new wires within the harness (although the pots are original).

SP Luthier Notes: This instrument was inspected by our luthier upon landing with us and was deemed to all ready be in ideal cosmetic and playing condition. The guitar appears to have either been refretted or to have had some recent fretwork done to it before coming to us, and it plays amazingly well. No further work was required.

We all hear about the golden era of Gibson dating from the early 1950s to the mid-1960s - legendary instruments owned and played by some of the finest guitar players to ever walk the Earth. This is a guitar of that caliber. The vintage output of the original pickups does everything from bark and bite to the jazziest of jazz. It is repsonsive in all the ways that even modern instruments wish they were. And, in spite of the slightly heavier weight for a guitar of this kind it balances super well and feels great - thanks in part to the new frets which feel much better than the originals would have. Absolutely the best electric guitar in the shop right now, and it's really not close. Don't miss this one!

About Manufacturer

Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
