Condition: Used, Very Good. This instrument was made in 1968 and has cosmetic features that should be nothing less than expected of an instrument this age.
SP Luthier Notes: The guitar required a full adjustment to the truss rod, nut, and bridge to be brought to a perfect level of playability. A majority of frets showed evidence of play wear. As such, the frets were leveled, recrowned, and polished back to a near mint state. No further work was required.
A Royal Olive Burst Semi-Hollow with just one neck pickup and a couple of knobs, from the late 1960s no less. What else could you need? This guitar is a charming piece, and sounds absolutely incredible plugged in to anything we here and SoundPure could toss at it. Slide guitar work sounds incredible, as do jazzy sounds and face-ripping leads through a fuzz box. Thanks to the simple controls, there is nothing getting in your way of having a blast. Thanks to our luthier's handiwork this guitar plays super well, and is a real delight to have in the hands.
Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson's close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson's Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
