What We Think

Manufacturer's Description from TELEFUNKEN

TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik microphones are known for their beautifully detailed acoustic reproduction. As they're made in a 'no holds barred' manner, that also makes them rather expensive for the average small studio or home enthusiast. With this in mind, the R-F-T series of microphones was created.

This new line of tube condenser microphones utilizes American designed electronics in conjunction with New Old Stock tubes and standardized parts from overseas manufacturers. While we have not "cut any corners," we have been able to provide a lower cost alternative to more expensive microphone systems, without sacrificing the qualities that you would expect from a TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik microphone.

The amplifier found in the R-F-T AK47 features a new proprietary circuit designed around a NOS TELEFUNKEN EF-732 tube and a custom output transformer built in the good ol' U.S. of A. The dual sided large diaphragm capsule undergoes rigorous testing in our laboratory prior to installation in the R-F-T AK-47, and again during final testing and burn-in of the microphone.

Sonically, the R-F-T AK47 is a remarkably hi-fidelity microphone with a "present" but not "harsh" character, which in many ways is reminiscent of a historic M-49. The TELEFUNKEN EF-732 tube is very similar to the AC-701 tube in that is provides a "velvety" character to the overall tone of the microphone. When this tube is coupled with our custom designed output transformer the result is a microphone with superior high frequency detail, a rich and thunderous low end, without the upper mid-range frequency bump (what we call "guitar store brightness") often found in microphones in this price range. Instead, it has a delicate and intimate "air" that is usually found only in microphones three times the price.

The AK-47 delivers top shelf TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik quality at a price that even mere mortals can afford. Contact your favorite TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik reseller to acquire a tool you won't outgrow and will enjoy for a lifetime.

TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik

About Manufacturer

TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik of South Windsor, CT has been following the tradition of excellence and innovation set forth by the original TELEFUNKEN GmbH of Germany that began over 100 years ago.

TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik's origins began in 2000 when owner Toni Fishman acquired the rights to the name and diamond logo for use in North America. The company began with the reverse engineering of a single microphone part: the ELA M 251 polar pattern selector. Mr. Fishman purchased an original Telefunken ELA M 251 for use in his recording studio, but when he received it he discovered that the polar pattern switch was no longer functional. Realizing that this was a common issue with the original units, the idea to recreate it was born.

The switch was reverse engineered and brought into production for other 251 owners with the same issue. With one part down, the goals were set high to successfully reverse engineer the entire microphone exactly as it was originally manufactured. The next two years were spent developing each and every part of the microphone right down to every detail. Numerous original documents and drafts from TELEFUNKEN and AKG were acquired, and coupled with thorough reverse engineering the ELA M 251 was brought back to life with meticulous accuracy.

As TELEFUNKEN moves forward, one foot is rooted in the rich history of the brand, and the other in new microphone innovations. TELEFUNKEN has evolved exponentially from a single pattern switch to one of the industry leaders in top quality microphones.
