If you are not familiar with Roger Giffin, I guarantee you are familiar with his list of clients: Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend, Joe Walsh, Keith Richards, and George Harrison, just to name a few! The Valiant was Roger's first Single Cut design. With its offset contoured body and sharper lower cutaway it's definitely working its slant on a traditional setneck design. The straight string-pull headstock is a bonus as well. This one has a giant voice and wonderful playability - "Hoss" means business. One open E chord and you'll understand why all of those "stars" sought Roger's work.
Right off the bat I loved the chunky feel of this guitars neck. It's one of those necks that seems to hug the inside of your palm on bends and really facilitates good string control. I found bluesy licks and inflections to come through with the greatest of ease. The strong punchy tone of this guitar is perfect for rock and blues. With a little bit of overdrive it really cranks some open chord rock, and has a serious sweet spot for ripping some leads up the neck. I love its simplistic master volume/master tone operating scheme, and the coil split is a handy addition should you need a little smokey single coil action to spice up the night. Overall, this is a killer ax and would easily fit into a discerning collector's arsenal.
The Valiant was my original single cutaway electric guitar, and it presents a modern slant on a traditional theme with its off-set contoured body and straight string-pull head stock.
