What We Think
Birch/Mahogany is quickly becoming one of my favorite tonewood combinations for snare drums, mainly due to the yin and yang tonal qualities exhibited. Birch offers lots of bright attack and projection, while mahogany delivers a much warmer, darker, and more mellow sound. The combination of these two woods results in a snare drum that responds extremely well across a wide tuning range. Tuned low, this drum has plenty of body and beef without sounding muddy. Tuned high, it cracks like a whip without choking out. These characteristics are boosted by the 7x14 measurements of this drum.

The drum artisans at Pork Pie have always had an amazing attention to detail and this Birch/Mahogany Snare Drum returns the favor. Constructed with Pork Pie's progressive ply design, this snare features an 8-ply, mahogany veneer on the interior and exterior with a birch ply core. It's an exquisite design which is only rivaled by the craftsmenship within.
Offering bearing edges that are hand-sanded and precision cut allowing you to get the full potential of this custom drum. The hardware includes hourglass lugs, exclusive to Pork Pie, and 2.3mm heavy-duty hoops that can take the best you can dish out. The drum comes outfitted with Remo USA heads so you're able to enjoy fine tones straight out of the box.
About Manufacturer
In 1987, Bill Detamore started making drums as a hobby. He sold one, made two more, and so on. This evolved into some of the finest handmade drums available today. To take snare drums one step further, he introduced solid (one piece), exotic wood stave and plate brass designs. Pork Pie has also introduced their Little Squealer and Hip Pig series of drums to round out the line.
Over the years, Pork Pie has become the place where a drummer can hot rod an existing kit with new bearing edges, refinishing, or design the kit of their dreams.
