Stave snare drums have been a long time favorite for players that are looking projection and tone woods outside of the normal offerings. With a shell construction that is similar to a conga, builders can shape new sounds for discerning players.
Hickory is not usually on the sound palette for drums, so this is a nice treat to have this combined with the Pork Pie snare drum recipe. At close to 1/2" thick, the stave shell produces a fantastic focus at lower dynamics while delivering thunderous crack at higher volumes. The ten lug configuration gives you total control of your tuning throughout multiple tunings with ease.
