What We Think

For many years, Jarrah has been one of our favorite tone wood imports from Australia. Its richness and density voice unlike any other timber and exudes a natural beauty commensurate to its sound.

This Jarrah snare drum with Stick Saver hoops brings a throwback flair with modern build tolerances. For this beauty, the Metro company used a 12 ply shell without reinforcing rings and finished it with a natural satin. Jarrah is a myrtle wood species that comes from Australia that is known for its strength and versatility. Being close to 30% harder than maple, its visual and tonal range is similar to bubinga, featuring a strong midrange focus that is dry, rich and warm, with a splash of top-end shimmer. Coupled with the 10 lug configuration bring a soothing warmth that we fell in love with.

The Inde throw-off is reminiscent of the Ludwig P88 strainer and features locking sensitivity dial so that you no longer have to worry about your snare tension coming loose while you’re playing.

If you find yourself searching for a new sound outside of the normal parameters, give Jarrah some serious consideration. The harder density of this timber creates fantastic tones that are perfect for live or studio applications.
