What We Think
The Meinl Byzance Extra Dry cymbals really live up to their name. These cymbals are extremely dry, with low-pitched, trashy sounds and short sustain. The raw unlathed surfaces and extensive hand hammering suggest that their sound might be loud but that is not the case. In reality, the Extra Dry series have dark, earthy tones and really come to life when played at lower volumes. Great for live or recording, these cymbals dynamics and control in beautiful package.

Each range is hand crafted by MEINL artisans at our foundry in Turkey, then given sound-enhancing final touches by our craftsmen in Germany. Six different ranges offer a choice of feels and sounds for virtually every style of music. Best of all, with Byzance your sound is all yours, because every Byzance cymbal is a one-of-a-kind. Extra Dry cymbals have big hammer marks which—in combination with the untreated, natural finish—enable an extremely dark sound with a short sustain. They exhibit dominant lows with an esoteric character.

Only MEINL uses 6 different alloys for crafting cymbals, which is more than any other cymbal maker is using today. Because of that, we are able to offer the widest selection of basic cymbal sound characteristics available. Striving for the realization of any possible sound idea makes it necessary to have this diversity, the background in and knowledge of all those different materials.
Constantly trained and highly qualified employees master all challenges within our production team. Most of them are drummers themselves! And if someone is not and starts working for us, we pay for the drum lessons. They know why they are doing what they do, and don’t consider it just another 9 to 5 job.
