Kush Audio has been moding the Empirical Labs EL7 Fatso for some time, and now you can buy a pre-moded fatso ready to go out of the box. The idea behind the unit was to take David Derrs Fatso, which is a fantastic 2 bus tape emulator, and give the compressor section a thorough re-working. Greg Scott (Kush Audio) set out with a few goals in mind, but mainly he wanted to increase the abilities of the EL7 Fatso as a bus compressor. Greg wanted a smooth compressor that even when pushed hard, would never sound bad. While the UBK Fatso retains the best parts of the original EL7, harmonic thickening, tape saturation and warmth control, the UBK features some impressive Compressor settings like Splat, Smooth and Glue. These presets are designed to give the Fatso the added tools to be a great compressor as well as a fantastic analog warming device.
